Veterinary Assistants

Overview

The Veterinary Assistants course is designed to provide an introduction to veterinary medicine and veterinary medical procedures. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of patient care and management in veterinary medicine, as well as specialised veterinary care. The course also covers veterinary practice management to ensure the smooth running of veterinary practices.

In the Introduction to Veterinary Medicine, students will learn about the history of veterinary medicine, the role of veterinary assistants in animal healthcare, and common veterinary medical procedures. This includes techniques such as administering medication, providing wound care, and performing basic laboratory procedures. Patient care and management in veterinary medicine are also essential components of this course. Students will learn about the importance of hygiene, nutrition, and exercise in animal care, as well as how to handle and restrain animals during procedures. They will also learn about common animal health issues and how to identify signs of distress or illness.

The course includes specialised veterinary care, such as emergency care, anaesthesia and surgical procedures. Students will learn about the use of diagnostic tools, such as X-rays and ultrasounds, and how to assist veterinarians during these procedures. Veterinary practice management is another important aspect of the course. Students will learn about the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice, including client communication, appointment scheduling, medical record keeping and billing.

Upon completion of the Veterinary Assistants course, students will have the skills and knowledge necessary to assist veterinarians in providing excellent care for animals in a veterinary practice setting.
